📅 Changes in the 2025 USCIS Civics Test

Important: If you filed your N-400 before October 20, 2025, the old test (2008 version with 100 questions) applies. If you filed on or after October 20, 2025, you will take the 2025 version.

🔄 Key Updates

1. Question Format

The test now includes 20 oral questions selected from a pool of 128. The interview officer stops the test as soon as the applicant reaches 12 correct answers (pass) or 9 wrong answers (fail).

2. Standardized Wording

All questions and answers are now written in simplified and consistent English for clarity.

3. Digital Availability

Some USCIS offices have started using a tablet-based version of the test, though paper and oral versions remain standard.

4. Test Timing

The civics test is conducted during the naturalization interview and takes about 10 minutes.

📊 Summary

The new format is designed to make the test simpler and fairer, focusing on understanding core civic concepts rather than memorizing complex phrasing.
